#eventrecap – HRNOW Part lll : Personal Branding and Health

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Our Fall signature event, HR NOW, took place on October 30th. We had the pleasure to invite speakers like Matt Brown from Credential Financial, Julie Wong from Bull, Housser & Tupper LLP, Patrick Doyle from Teck Resources Ltd., Agata Zasada from HootSuite, and Valerie Molloy from WorkSafe BC join us for an evening filled with learning and networking! Catch up with part I and part II of this recap series if you haven’t already!

In Workshop B, Agata Zasada from Hootsuite began session 1 by explaining the term ‘Personal Brand’. She stated that your personal brand should reflect who you currently are and what you want to be in the future.  Agata also talked about the usage of LinkedIn and encouraged students to only include relevant jobs for your career, to think towards the future, and follow groups in your industry of choice and career. She stated that LinkedIn summaries should be reflective of your brand, contain information you can’t add in your timeline, and be a tool for you to discuss your passion.  One of the most important messages from Agata’s presentation was to be the same person online as you are offline.

Next, Valerie Molloy from WorkSafe BC talked about safety, health and wellness. She stated that “sitting is the new smoking,” and that “healthy, happy, engaged employees drive productivity.” She encouraged students to take stretch breaks and introduced an ‘Ergonomics Program’. The program consists of taking 20 second stretch breaks and looking 20 feet away every 20 minutes to stay refreshed during long work hours.

HR NOW ended with a short networking session and students were able to personally ask speakers questions after their presentations. The HRSA executive team and the HR NOW Organizing Committee would like to thank all speakers for taking their time to come out, and all attendees for actively engaging throughout the event! We’d also like to say a special thank you to Happy Water and Staples for sponsoring us!

We hope to see everyone soon at our next big event, the Spring Soiree!
